Help When you need it
Troubleshooting
The common problems, most likely cause first. Still stuck? Ask on the Discord support server.
Nothing appears in Discord
On a dedicated server:
- Check Beta APIs is on for the world your server is actually running. This is the cause nine times out of ten.
- Check the console when the server starts. You should see
[BedrockRelay] connected to https://bedrockrelay.com. If there's no[BedrockRelay]line at all, the pack didn't load. Make surecontent-log-console-output-enabled=trueis set inserver.properties(some hosts set this in their control panel instead), then restart. - Check the dashboard. If the world shows as offline, the pack isn't reaching us. Try Reinstall pack on its Settings tab.
On a Realm, check the Realm is open and our bot is still one of its members. See If something goes wrong on a Realm.
On either, check the channel's events. A channel without Chat won't show player chat. See Events.
Setup is stuck waiting for your world to connect
On a dedicated server, the page is waiting for the pack's first check-in. Start or restart the server, then work through the list above. Also make sure the server is running the world the pack was installed to. You can choose Skip for now and pick a channel; relaying starts as soon as the pack connects.
On a Realm, the page is waiting for our bot to get in, or for the pack to answer it. See If something goes wrong on a Realm.
Joins show in Discord, but chat doesn't
Another addon is probably taking over chat. Chat ranks and chat formatting addons hide each message and show it again in their own format, and Minecraft only lets the behaviour packs listed above that addon see the original. So BedrockRelay has to be at the top of the world's behaviour pack list.
On a dedicated server, installing or updating the pack from the dashboard (pack v0.6.1 or newer) puts it there. If you added the other addon afterwards, move BedrockRelay back to the top in your host's control panel, or in the world's world_behavior_packs.json, then restart.
From pack v0.6.1, chat that another addon hides still goes to Discord, so a player muted by another addon can still be seen there.
On a Realm there's nothing to move: our bot reads the chat line the addon shows players instead, such as [VIP] Steve: hi, and posts it as Steve's. It knows the usual formats (a name followed by :, », > or |, or a name in brackets). If your chat addon's messages still don't appear, tell us what a chat line looks like in the game and we'll add it. Chat that another addon hides without showing it again, such as a muted player's, doesn't reach Discord from a Realm.
It's connected, but players can't join
This is for dedicated servers only. Microsoft hosts Realms, so there's no address for BedrockRelay to check.
The pack only needs to reach us, so a server can be connected to BedrockRelay while players still can't get in. About once a minute BedrockRelay checks it the way Minecraft does before joining, and the dashboard shows Can't join when that check fails:
- It answers with no server details. Minecraft treats that as offline. Turn on
enable-lan-visibilityinserver.properties(on many hosts it's a setting in the control panel), then restart. - Nothing answered. The port is closed to players, or players join at a different address. Check the server's port (
server-port) is open. From Minecraft 26.60 it needs to be open for TCP as well as UDP, because players' games now connect over TCP on that port first. - It connects from a private address. BedrockRelay can't check it from the internet. Enter the address players use.
BedrockRelay checks the address your server connects from, on the port in server.properties. Some hosts connect out from a different address than players join on: enter the join address under Where players join on the Settings tab.
Discord messages don't appear in Minecraft
The channel needs a direction of Both ways or Discord → Minecraft, and the Chat event. Messages from other bots are ignored on purpose, so relays can't echo each other forever.
A channel is greyed out, or a route shows a warning
That channel's permissions stop BedrockRelay seeing it or posting in it. See When BedrockRelay can't use a channel for the two-minute fix.
/relay run says a command isn't allowed
Nothing runs until it's allowed. The world's owner can add a rule on its Commands tab. If it says you don't have the role, ask them to add your role to that rule.
A plugin's commands don't show in Discord
- On a dedicated server, restart it after installing, so it loads the plugin. A Realm opens again by itself once the plugin is in.
- Check the plugin is switched on on the world's Plugins tab. New plugins start switched on, but someone may have switched it off.
- Check you're in a Discord server the world is connected to. At first only Discord administrators can use a plugin: add a role on its card to let others use it.
- If the Plugins tab says the pack is too old, update the pack from the world's Settings tab (and restart, on a dedicated server).
A live board has stopped updating
The world's Plugins tab lists each board with the reason: the world is offline, it didn't answer, the plugin was switched off, or the bot can't edit its message. For the last, give BedrockRelay View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links in that channel.
Proximity voice isn't moving anyone
- Each player needs to link their account and be in the proximity lobby while playing.
- A dedicated server needs pack v0.5.0 or newer. The dashboard offers Update pack until it has one.
- If the card says Channels missing, remove proximity voice and create it again.
